keeping the arts informed

  • “I was impressed by their tender scenes of physical intimacy. I was heartened to know that an Intimacy Director was used to help them have a safe space to create these scenes. I applaud Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre for being sensitive to the issues that intimate interactions can create for actors.”

Annie Sadovsky Koepf, Taming of the Review

  • They are a compassionate and community-minded individual and he has an ability to engage students in community outreach and to get buy-in from an established organization to participate in new programming, and is a testament to their consensus-building and management skills.

    Kristen Burton, Whitewater Arts Alliance

  • I've been making theatre for over 30 years. Recently, for the first time, I had the opportunity to work with an Intimacy Director (the incredible Matt Denney). Matt made some extremely delicate and volatile material easy to portray. He gave our cast a new vocabulary and openness in discussing such intimate interactions. Matt gave me tools and language in order to respectfully draw my own personal boundaries, and feel safe enough to discuss and problem-solve how my boundaries could work with the individual boundaries of my scene partners. What a gift Matt's work is to the Tucson Theatre community, and to me.

    Gretchen Wirges, Actor

  • "Matt and Christine excel at creating an open and comfortable space for intimacy work in the theatrical setting. As a stage manager, they have given me tools to help cultivate a more conscious and welcoming rehearsal environment. Both Matt and Christine have wonderful attention to detail and care when working with actors, directors and creative teams to create a common vocabulary and understanding around consent, boundaries, and self-care in a theatrical space. I truly believe Matt and Christine are two of the best intimacy professionals working today!"

Theatre is a form of knowledge; it should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it.
